Global Travel – Art, Travel & Beyond

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

A book accompanying an art exhibition about travel and art. Full of critical pieces about how we perceive tourism and it’s effects on cultures and social groups. I found it in Amsterdam and couldn’t put it down, till I was through. Nice to have writers who don’t want to impress you with cryptic arty-farty ego trips for a change, but actually have something to say.

The Wide World, true adventures for men

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

… is a collection of articles from “The Wide World” magazine, a travel and action man’s story paper from the 1950’s-1960’s. Tales like “I Fell 20,000 Feet” or “Out Of The Lion’s Jaws” bring you right back into the time, where africa was less explored and the bravest man could tell the boldest tales as long as they survived them.

…is essentially a collection of old / rare / eccentric / unusual maps, of cities, regions, countries and the world.(amazon)
It’s is a diverse collection of graphically interesting maps. It is accompanied by a CD containing all the maps from the book for free use!
As 80DAYS will heavily be dependend on a world map as a central piece, this book is quite a nugget to draw inspiration from, and has a querky format.
